Wharf Park - Sloop pavilion
The May 3,2022Park Advisory Board (PAB) meeting was called to order by Mike Whitehill, Chair at
6:00 p.m. at the Wharf Park. The fotlowing members and staff were present: Mike Whitehill, Chair; Sandy
Simpson, Secretary; Priscilla Mileski, Fred McNeal and Rich Ryan, members; and Norma Robinson,
Administrative Assistant.
Review and Apnroval of Previous Minutes:
Minutes from the April 5,2022 meeting were emailed for review. Ms. Mileski made a motion,
which was seconded by Ms. Simpson, to approve the April 5,2022PA8 meeting minutes. The
motion passed by a unanimous vote.
Citizens Comments:
Tim McCluskey of Watson Road was present and gave comments. He thanked the Town and PAB
for their dedication and improvements to the Wharf. He also noted that the fire extinguisher at the
North end ofthe park is nonfunctioning and suggested that additional fire extinguishers be placed at
the Wharf.

Old Business:
Mr. Whilehill presented an overview of the Wharf Park project. Now that the thrce pavilions are
completed, overhead lights have been installed at each pavilion. The lights can be operated by the
mounted light switch. If the lights are continuously left on, the switch will be changed to dawn to
dusk sensors. Eighlfoot picnic tables will be placed and bolted to the cement floor ol each pavilion.
Six trash cans will be placed in the park near the pavilions along with three grills with ash bins.
There is approximately $2039 in Community Parks and Playgrounds funds to be used by June 30th.
Mr. Whitehill advised that a thank you letter was mailed to the Town from resident, Madelyn
Hanison, thanking the Town for the lovely Wharf Park, which she and her family visit often. A
copy of the letter was forwarded to the PAB members.
Mr. Whitehill advised that the Town has budgeted $135,000 towards Phase II of the Millstream
Trail. This trail will extend Millstream Park, crossing over route 213, traveling behind Hillside
along seventy acres of land granted by Symphony Village. The trail continues southward to include
bridges and walking paths through wooded lands ofthe Town, neighboring the woodlands of
property behind Rolling Bridge Road owned by Peter Shaeffer'
Mr. Wlitehill stated that he and Ms. Miieski have discussed plantings that could be placed at the Pop
Taylor Park.

Mr. Whitehill advised that the PAB still has over $7000 in the budget that could be used by the end
of June. He stated that funds could be used towards the edible planting trail suggested by Ms.
Mileski during the last meeting. Ms. Mileski suggested a daffodil box be placed at Millstream. She
stated that she visited a county park which had a large swing set suitable for persons or adults with
disabilities. It would be a nice attraction to have the larger swings placed at each park. The PAB
discussed lights that could be placed along the boardwalk and have the lights remain on along the
dock atl night. Lights would enhance the beauty at the docks. Ms. Mileski suggested new easels
used to create new information boards to display and update residents on the improvements at the
Wharf. The boards could be displayed at any event to include, Drink Maryland, the QAC Fair,
Centreville Day, etc. The PAB wants to make sure there are enough Christmas lights to add
decorations at the Wharf in December.

Mr. Whitehill noted that the Arbor Day Celebration went well.

Mr. Whitehill advised a letter was written and forwarded to the Town Council on behalf of the PAB
supporting the QAC Dog Park and requesting that the Town Council send a letter in support ofthe
Dog Park to the QAC Commissioners.
