PAB Meeting Minutes
August 9,2022 - 5:00 PM - Work Session
Town Hall, 101 Lawyers Row
The August9,2022 Park Advisory Board (PAB) work session was called to order by Mike Whitehill,
Chair at 5:00 p.m. via ZOOM. The following members and staff were present: Mike Whitehill, Chair;
Sandy Simpson, Secretary; Priscilla Mileski and Rich Ryan, members and Norma Robinson,
Administrative Assistant.
Appearances:
a Tim McCluskey, Watson Road, was present and offered comments
New Business:
a The PAB had a roundtable discussion for a ribbon cutting or an event highlighting the
improvements and amenities at the Wharf Park. After discussion, the consensus was to have more
than just a ribbon cutting but have an event, which would draw families to the Wharf.
Based on prior years events, the PAB found the need to contact other resources, which assisted in
the success of other events to include Corsica River Conservancy, QAC Parks and Recreations,
Tim McCluskey, and members of the Town Council. Dates selected for the event were Saturday,
September l0th or September 17th. These dates will go before the Town Council to select a date for
their approval.
a The PAB discussed inviting prior Town Council Members as far back as 2007 when the Wharf
project first began. Mr. Whitehill noted it would be good to invite those who had a hand in making
the Wharf Project successful like those who approved grant funding, State Representatives, County
Commissioners and any other luminaries, especially Ms. Madelyn Harrison from Windsor Avenue
who wrote a thank you letter to the PAB for the best place in Town that she loves to visit.
a The following is the PAB plan to get the project started:
a. Tentative dates for the event are Saturday, September lOth or 17th. The PAB is requesting
approval from the Town Council for the event and to select either date.
b. The planned event schedule is 4 - 6 PM for a Fishing Derby, 6: l5 PM a ribbon cutting, 6:30 -
SPM serving of hot dogs, etc. and enjoying the Wharf amenities and then 8 PM movie night.
Contact suggestions to serve hot dogs were the Boy Scouts, Paul Gunther, or Gene Dodd.
c.
A speaker or speakers are needed for the event, mainly to highlight the history of the Wharf.
One suggestion was Mike Whitehill.
d. PAB request Council Liaison, Shelby Anania or a member of the Town Council be involved in
the event.
e.
Mr. Ryan made a motion, which was seconded by Ms. Mileski, to request the Town Council
approve funding to purchase a movie for movie night.
